Cleaners in Tooting Graveney, SW17

Tooting Graveney is the southern half of Tooting, SW17: the residential streets around Mitcham Road that run down towards Figges Marsh, where Wandsworth stops and Merton begins. Its rail stop is Tooting station on the Thameslink Sutton loop. From us it is a straight run down Upper Tooting Road, and most of what brings us here is move-out work in the converted terraces, with a steady line of carpets behind it.

One front door, two tenancies

The bay-fronted Victorian terraces off Mitcham Road were mostly split long ago into an upper and a lower flat behind a shared front door. One address can therefore mean two check-outs in the same month, booked through different agents, and the two flats are not the same job at all. The lower flat usually has the back addition, which gives it the narrow galley kitchen and the door out to the garden. The upper flat has its own flight of stairs up from the shared hall, the first carpet anyone sees when they walk in. A one bedroom conversion is £207 fixed and two bedrooms £243, and carpets booked alongside the clean come down to £29 a bedroom and £35 for the stairs.

Late August and the end of every month

Tenancy dates bunch up here. St George's staff and the medical school students follow the academic year, so late August is the crunch, and at any other time of year the last three days of the month fill first. If your check-out lands on either, ring when you hand in your notice rather than the week before. The move-out clean is priced on bedrooms whatever the date, from £156 for a studio.

Limescale is what fails the bathroom

The water is very hard. Wandsworth check-out inventories fail bathrooms on limescale all the time, and glass shower screens show it worst. We descale the screen, the taps and the toilet rim as part of a move-out rather than wiping over them, since a wipe dries back to a white bloom within the hour.

Getting the van in

All of this sits inside Wandsworth's controlled zone, and a check-out with carpets and an oven keeps the van outside for most of the day. That needs either a paperless visitor permit from you or the landlord, or a bay suspension booked in advance. We sort out which when you book. A paid session, where one is needed, is charged at cost.

The houses that were never split

Not every house went into flats. On the conservation streets there are Victorian houses still in use as whole houses, and those are where our regular work down here comes from: a weekly cleaner at £23 per cleaner per hour, three hours minimum, so £69 a visit.

At the top of Mitcham Road is the Broadway and its markets, and the full price list sits on our Tooting Bec page.

Questions we get asked

Do you cover the streets down towards Figges Marsh?

Yes, all of SW17 down to the Merton boundary. It is the same price list as Tooting Bec and there is no travel charge.

Our house is two flats. Can you clean both on the same day?

Yes, and it saves setting up twice. Each flat is priced on its own bedroom count, so an upper one bed and a lower two bed are £207 and £243. If the tenants leave on different dates, we can split it into two visits.

How far ahead should I book a check-out for late August?

Two or three weeks if you can. That is when the hospital and medical school tenancies turn over, and the last few days of the month go first.
